The Advantech BB-485USBTB-2W-A USB to RS-485 converter is a dedicated solution for expanding RS-485 communication ports on PCs, laptops, and industrial control systems. It is specifically designed for applications requiring high reliability, strong noise immunity, and safe electrical isolation between host devices and field equipment.
Equipped with 2 kV optical isolation, the converter effectively protects USB ports and connected devices from electrical surges, transient voltages, and industrial noise. The well-known FTDI FT232R chipset ensures stable performance, broad operating system compatibility, and high data transfer rates of up to 921.6 kbps.
The compact, rugged, solid aluminum enclosure makes the BB-485USBTB-2W-A suitable for installation in control cabinets, PLC systems, or mobile maintenance setups. Thanks to its reliability and performance, this converter is widely used in factory automation systems, energy monitoring, PLC control stations, sensor networks, and industrial measurement equipment.

Step 1: USB Connection
Plug the BB-485USBTB-2W-A USB connector into a PC or industrial controller
Ensure the USB port supplies sufficient 5V DC power
Step 2: Driver Installation
On Windows: the system will automatically detect the device, or install the FTDI driver manually if required
On Linux/macOS: FTDI devices are typically recognized automatically without additional drivers
Step 3: RS-485 Device Connection
Use the 2-wire terminal block to connect to the RS-485 field device
Wiring polarity:
A → D+
B → D-
Step 4: Communication Configuration
Open communication software (e.g. ModScan, RealTerm, SCADA or PLC software)
Configure baud rate, parity, stop bits, and the assigned COM port according to the RS-485 device settings
Step 5: Operation Check
Observe the TX/RX LEDs to confirm data transmission and reception
If communication fails, recheck wiring, COM port selection, and baud rate configuration
Handling & Storage Notes
Avoid exposure to excessive humidity or temperatures beyond the specified limits
Do not disconnect the USB cable while data transmission is in progress to prevent communication errors
